Privacy architecture and evidence
Proton VPN says it does not log websites visited, traffic content, IP addresses, session lengths, or location-based information. It also says the service operates from Switzerland and that its VPN apps are fully open source and independently audited. Those are meaningful transparency signals because they give users policy, code, and audit material to examine.
They are not the same as a promise that a VPN is invisible or risk-free. A VPN provider becomes a network intermediary, and your privacy still depends on your device, account security, browser, DNS configuration, endpoint, and what information you voluntarily submit. Stealth can be useful when a conventional VPN connection is detected or blocked, but it is not a guarantee that a country’s filtering system will be bypassed. Download the app, sign in, and test the protocol before traveling. Follow local law and the terms of the services you access.
Streaming and smart-TV use
Proton’s official streaming guidance says streaming is available on paid VPN plans and that Free users must upgrade. Even with a paid plan, streaming providers regularly change detection methods and regional catalogs. A VPN may connect successfully while a specific app still refuses playback or shows a different library.
For a TV or streaming stick, check whether the device supports the Proton app, whether your subscription includes the needed server access, and whether router configuration is practical. Do not treat Smart DNS or a VPN connection as a permanent promise that a particular catalog will work.
P2P and torrenting
Proton says Plus servers support P2P. Choose a server explicitly marked for the feature and follow the law and the copyright rules applicable to your location.
